Orange Bud 2.0 500g dry harvest from 4 plants by @big.chalas

@big.chalas is a quality-focussed European grower with 11 years of cultivation experience. Here is his Orange Bud 2.0 grow review of these fine-quality citrus skunk genetics. He grew 4 feminised seeds in large felt sacks of coco fibre and enjoyed a 500g/17.6oz harvest of top-grade buds – “extremely resinous with an intense orange juice sweetness”.

Skilled growers with 10+ years of experience rarely waste their time on average strains. Instead, they research cannabis seed varieties carefully, growing only proven bangers with impeccable genetic lineage. So it’s extra rewarding for Dutch Passion to hear @big.chalas describe Orange Bud 2.0 as the best strain he has grown in his 11-year grow career.

Orange Bud genetics were originally found during the large scale 1980’s Dutch Passion skunk seed grow. One skunk from the many hundreds grown stood out for a pungent sweet citrus aroma. 20%+ THC levels accompanied the unforgettable taste/aroma, original Orange Bud was born and became a best seller thanks to the inherent ease-of-growth that comes with many of the best skunk lines.

Orange Bud 2.0 is a further refinement of the original, with an even richer taste thanks to the inclusion of the best Mimosa genetics yet found by Dutch Passion. In this grow, big.chalas grew Orange Bud 2.0 to perfection with exceptional resin density. Even the fan leaves were heavily crusted. Here’s how he did it.

Orange Bud 2.0 vegetative growth stage (4 weeks)

Orange Bud 2.0 showed robust growth in the aerated coco fibre grow medium from the outset. Big Chalas did a great job of keeping his plants in the nutrient sweet spot, with no burned leaf tips. The hybrid genetics showed large fan leaves even on the young plants.

The leaves had a vibrant healthy green appearance throughout the veg growth phase. No special cultivation techniques were used during the vegetative growth phase, the Orange Bud 2.0 genetics grew steadily and rapidly by themselves.

My main observation is that from the very beginning —from germination through the first weeks of vegetative growth— the plant showed a robust, strong branch structure, with very green, vibrant leaves.

Orange Bud 2.0 flowering stage (9 weeks)

The cannabis bloom phase took 9 weeks in total, that’s typical for Orange Bud 2.0 plants. During bloom big.chalas had no real difficulties. The main features of this grow were:

  • Exceptional resin density, even the fan leaves were crusted.
  • Steady growth, no unexpected problems throughout.
  • Beautiful colour development, initial pink hues and dark blue final colourations.

During the flowering stage, I did a bit of super-cropping. The pre-flower development was fast, with resin appearing as early as the second week. As the days went by, the flowers started forming super dense buds full of resin.

Later in flowering, different colours began to appear in the plants, and in their final days they turned very bluish. The phenotypes came out very similar, with an intense citrus flavour.

Early flowering (Week 1–2)

  • Pre-flower development was fast.
  • Resin appeared as early as week 2. Connoisseur genetics bred to deliver!
  • @big.chalas performed some supercropping to manage height.

Mid flowering (Week 3–6)

  • Buds began forming into dense clusters.
  • Resin production increased steadily. Trichome density was exceptional
  • All phenotypes appeared similar- highlighting the stable, uniform genetics.
  • A strong citrus aroma began to emerge.

Late flowering (Week 7–9)

  • Visible colour transformation: plants turned a beautiful bluish toward the end. Beautiful looking buds of this high-THC citrus strain started to swell
  • The trademark Orange Bud 2.0 intense citrus pungency continued to strengthen. Carbon filters are essential!
  • Buds became extremely sticky and as a result, heavy. Support nets are useful to prevent the blooms collapsing under their own weight.

Stage Duration Key Notes
Vegetative 4 weeks Robust growth, vibrant leaves, no issues
Flowering 9 weeks Early resin, supercropping, bluish colors
Harvest 500g dry from 4 plants, extreme stickiness

It’s rare to see such a beautifully coloured harvest of this quality. Insane trichome frosting and the overwhelming sweet-citrus/mandarin skunkiness made this the best harvest yet for @big.chalas.

Orange Bud 2.0 is a very sweet strain and tastes like Orange juice with a touch of pine. In my 11 years growing plants, Orange Bud 2.0 is the best strain. Sticky flowers full of aroma and very dense.

The plants were harvested after 9 weeks of bloom and all the plants had similar appearance and bud quality. The extreme frosting made harvesting the dense nugs difficult and slow due to the stickiness. That seemed to be the only real difficulty encountered by the grower.

All the plants had a strong citrus aroma with orange-juice sweetness and a subtle pine undertone.

For Dutch Passion the most impressive feedback is when a customer writes in to say that these were the best cannabis seeds, they have ever grown. And that’s exactly what @big.chalas had to say about Orange Bud 2.0!

The final 500g (17.6oz) harvest from 4 plants was highly respectable for such harvest quality levels. Perhaps original Orange Bud could slightly out-yield Orange Bud 2.0 in these great conditions. But for @big.chalas, this grow and his choice of Orange Bud 2.0, was all about connoisseur quality and the finest quality levels possible.

The Dutch Passion team congratulate @big.chalas on his result!
