Slush Mint Cake feminised seeds grow review by ChiTownCannaChica
When it comes to well-known genetics, Dutch Passion never disappoints. One of their standout newer strains (that they hunted and bred), Slush Mint Cake, caught my attention with its promise of dessert-like terpenes, strong vigour, and heavy-hitting potency. After running it through a full cycle—2 plants via seed, I can say it exceeded my expectations on nearly every level.

Genetics and First Impressions
Slush Mint Cake is a cross of Slurmint x Ice Cream Cake, two powerhouse strains known for resin production, flavour, and potency.
From the very start, the plant showcased strong genetics with rapid germination and a uniform structure.
I have grown both genetics from seed as well. The Gelato from the Ice Cream Cake was the predominant trait in Slush Mint—from structure and terps. The frost most definitely came from the in-house Slurricane.

After running it through a full cycle—2 plants via seed, I can say it exceeded my expectations on nearly every level.

Grow room set-up
For this run, I used:
Size of grow room: 1.5m x 1.5m (5ft x 5ft)
Grow lights: Gavita 2400e – plus PhotoBio Clone lights for intercanopy/side lighting
Grow medium: Soil- 50/50 Fox Farms Happy Frog and ProMix HP
Nutrients: A mix of organic feeds along with supplemental salt-based (mineral-based) nutrients. Mainly GreenGro, Gaia Green, and Build a soil for the organics and House & Garden and FloraFlex for the salts—it is a whole theory
This Indica-leaning hybrid seemed adaptable to both styles of feeding—organics brought out deep terpene richness, while the salt-based boosters (mineral nutrients) added weight and density to the buds. The combination worked beautifully—I swear by it.

Vegetative stage
The plant grew with steady vigour, producing broad indica leaves and a strong main stem. Internodes were tight. I topped once and did a little defoliation. Slush Mint Cake responded well, showing no stress and quickly filling out into a bushy, symmetrical plant.
Once flipped to 11/13, Slush Mint Cake wasted no time stacking flowers. Buds formed quickly and grew into thick, frosty colas with heavy trichome coverage.
By week 6, the resin was already impressive and the aroma began shifting from fruit and floral toward sweet dessert notes with hints of mint and gas.
Growing in a cooler Chicago basement gave the leaves a deep purple colour near harvest. She stretched moderately, which made canopy management easy—perfect for tents or medium-height rooms.
…Some of the best results I’ve had with very minimal effort—big yields, loud terps, and great resin production.
Slush Mint Cake harvest info and results
By week 9 of flower, the plant was fully mature with cloudy trichomes and purple-tinted sugar leaves. Harvest was heavy, with dense, rock-hard buds that trimmed easily thanks to minimal leaf.
Yield: Above average – thick colas and great bud-to-leaf ratio and very DENSE nugs
Bag Appeal: Excellent – frosty, chunky buds with a deep purple colour. Love the kinetic sand texture on the grind—not too dry, not too greasy, and very sticky.

Flavour & Aroma: A layered profile of sweet mint, creamy vanilla, and a touch of earthy Kush. The flavour holds on the exhale, making it a real treat for flavor chasers. Heavy on the Gelato terps. Very smooth.
Effects: Potent and long-lasting. A relaxing, euphoric high that leans toward evening use without being overwhelmingly sedative.

Final Thoughts from ChiTownCannaChica
Growing Slush Mint Cake from Dutch Passion was a fantastic experience. The plant was hardy, easy to manage, very consistent, not needy at all, and incredibly rewarding.
The mix of soil, organics, and salt-based nutrients gave me some of the best results I’ve had with very minimal effort—big yields, loud terps, and great resin production.

If you’re looking for a dessert-flavoured strain with excellent bag appeal and top-shelf effects, Slush Mint Cake deserves a place in your garden.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced grower, this strain is easy, productive, and a real standout from Dutch Passion’s lineup.
I appreciate that they took the time to hunt and breed this strain, and it is not just another white label generic cultivar that may or may not contain the original genetics. This is theirs by them for you—and she’s a knockout.

Observations from Dutch Passion
Truly beautiful and desirable buds! Congratulations to ChiTownCannaChica on a beautifully controlled grow combining organic nutrients with mineral nutrients and producing some top-drawer home grown! And many thanks for her kind remarks in the review.

The Slush Mint Cake genetics come from a collaboration between Antonio, a leading European breeder and Dutch Passion. Slurmint and Ice Cream Cake genetics were professionally blended producing an Indica-dominant hybrid with THC levels averaging 23-27% alongside loud & sweet flavours.
