Orange Bud 2.0: A flawless and easy grow journey with legendary genetics

This grow diary documents Orange Bud 2.0 feminised seeds being grown by Danylo on the Autoflower Network grow forum. Danylo comments that he “Would HAPPILY rate her 11/10 if that would be possible.”

Here is the original grow diary for those wanting to follow the full online grow.

Orange Bud 2.0 overview: “probably the best cultivar I’ve grown”

Orange Bud 2.0 grown indoors by Danylo (flowering stage)

Orange Bud 2.0 is a professionally executed cross of the original multi-Cannabis Cup-winning Orange Bud mother plant with an exceptional high-THC Mimosa. This delivers intensified orange-citrus fruity terpenes and a potent euphoric, happy & energetic hybrid high with THC levels well over 20%.

Orange Bud 2.0 may not always produce quite the same XXL yields as the original Orange Bud. But the Orange Bud 2.0 version has unbeatably zesty taste, great pink/purple hues and a hard-hitting blissfully enjoyable high. Genuine connoisseur stash. Here’s what Danylo had to say about his experience growing her.

This plant is probably the best cultivar I’ve grown until now. Apart from the fused branches in Veg this one was basically flawless.

Amazing roots, fantastic trichome production, high yield, lovely bouquet and absurdly low maintenance in flower.

Amazing high too!! Big thanks to William from Dutch Passion for recommending me this truly amazing strain!

Nutrients and feeding

Danylo saves cash by making most of the nutrients from cheap raw ingredients. Alongside the cannabis seeds and electricity, nutrient costs are the biggest expenses facing most growers. Relatively few home growers manufacture their own nutrients due to the perceived complexity/risk.

I buy the raw ingredients and mix most of the fertilizer myself. A kilogram of N-P-K salt (in whatever split you need) costs about €/$/£ 2-4 depending on how much you buy. That kilogram is usually enough for 1400-1500L finished watering solution – so it’s basically free.

I also buy calcium nitrate and Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulphate) to adjust Cal/Mag of my local tap water to what the plant needs in each phase.

Supplements include Mairol BioAlgae, Plagron Silic Rock and Shogun Sumo Active Boost. “Somewhat expensive but well worth it on all those three!

Growth techniques used by Danylo with Orange Bud 2.0

I defoliate early, so lower branches keep up better with the dominant main stem. Then I top right before the switch to flowering.

With apical dominance broken and the remaining nodes in a good condition to catch up (especially in combination with flowering stretch), I usually end up with 10-16 main blooms depending on how many nodes the plant grew before the switch.

I guess you could call it ‘ghetto-mainlining’.

Orange Bud 2.0 growth and observations

I usually soak seeds in a 0.8% H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) solution for about 18 hours before planting them 5-10mm deep in low nutrient soil.

This seed was an exceptionally dense one that sank almost immediately. Germinated without problem.

  • Duration: 40 days
  • Light cycle: 18/6

She was very vigorous. VERY good root system too. This, combined with high light intensity, resulted in a LOT of defoliation in veg. All the work was well worth it though as she was completely ready for flower when it was time to switch.

  • Duration: 59 days
  • Light cycle: 12/12
  • Stretch: 78%
  • Final height: 80cm (2.6ft)

Remarks:

A little more work in veg led to basically no work needed in flower. She made flowering time very enjoyable because all I had to do was water and watch. Stems were sturdy so no support needed there, no deficiencies, not a single banana , nothing! The best kind of boring.

She has turned an absolutely beautiful pine/dark red. Buds appear to be medium sized ROCKS. Trimming this one will be an absolute breeze […] So this one probably ends up below sixty days of flower? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one

  • Total lifecycle: 101 days
  • Dry yield: 120g (4.2oz)
  • Bud quality: 11/10
  • Calyx-leaf ratio: Good (easy trim)

Remarks:

It is well known that cannabis and hops belong to the same overall plant family – but these buds actually look like sugarcoated hop cones. A lot of resin on the outside AND inside of the bud structure. Buds turned out very dense. Aroma is a beautiful peppery/spicy orange peel with a bit of herbaceousness and a lovely little bit of funk.

Note from the grower:

One point that could be misunderstood concerns the yield per watt and yield per square meter. The tent measured 80 × 80 cm and was lit with a 300 W lamp; however, the OB2.0 occupied only about 40–45% of the total 0.64 m². As a result, it effectively received approximately 130 W over ~0.28 m².

When adjusted for the actual space and power used, the resulting efficiency for this phenotype in this tent and environment is approximately 120 g per 130 W (~0.92 g/W). Considering the quality of the harvested flower, this is a result most growers would be very satisfied with. I sure as hell was!

I am an irredeemable wet-trimmer. Trimming this one was reasonably easy, but because there was so much of it … it still took some time. Some of the “trim” was completely covered by trichomes.

So, they finished drying. 9 days at ~60% Humidity. Maybe 8 days would have been better? I never know. Crushing some parts dry between the fingers smells (to me) like peppery orange peel/leafs with a little funk in the back. Also a little grapefruit/lemony bitter-freshness.

After trimming Danylo gave the following remark:

A lot of the beautiful purple/plum colors were in the fan and sugar leaves so the trimmed buds now look mostly green with some red/dark red accents.

Post-cure comment:

Uploaded one more pic of how the flower looks after a week of curing. Also uploaded a short video to give an idea how dense they are.

Orange 2.0 taste, effects, and rating

Taste and Aroma:

Vaporized these buds taste very similar to how they smell. I guess the caryophyllene comes through a little more intense here. The overall taste is absolutely excellent! Too bad it’s so strong. I’d vape a lot more just for the taste!

Effects:

I would describe the effects as ‘content, happy, hungry’ with NO anxiety or paranoia (at least for me). Perfect for a chill evening. Also a great sleep aid! Amazing high too!!

Observations and expert growing tips

Orange Bud 2.0 grown indoors by Danylo (flowering stage 8)

Fast flowering time – I have not had actually a strain below 60 days in some time!

GDP (Grand Daddy Purps)-like purpling can turn out very pretty during the latter 3 weeks.

Smells nice but doesn’t stink during flower. Option for people without carbon filters?

Trimming this one hurt my soul. Cutting off completely trichome PLASTERED leafs just feels wrong somehow.

Final Thoughts

Congrats from Dutch Passion to Danilo on some obscenely beautiful & desirable buds and a great harvest – all from a compact tent. Buy cannabis seeds with the best genetic pedigree and you can produce cannabis cup winning buds of your own – even with a small 80x80cm / 2.5×2.5ft grow area.

Orange Bud 2.0 fresh, sticky, terpy buds

Orange Bud 2.0 was bred to give the ultimate tangy, zesty, most fruity buds possible using the original Orange Bud genetics. For growers that love fruity powerful beautiful buds, Orange Bud 2.0 is about as good as it gets!

Fans of autoflower seeds should note that Auto Orange Bud uses the same classic high-THC citrus skunk, time-proven Orange Bud genetics in autoflower format, taking 10-12 weeks indoors.
