Slurricane Cookies grow report: two growers, one outstanding strain

Editor’s note: During the pre-release testing phase, Slurricane Cookies appeared under different codenames in the AFN grow diaries. Dab referred to the variety as Six × STC (Slurmint × Sour Tropicana Cookies), while St. Tom received seeds labelled A-2 Tester. Both names refer to the variety later released as Slurricane Cookies.

Grow #1 by Dab: Chasing maximum resin with EarthBoxes

For his pre-release test, Dab set out to answer one question: could Slurricane Cookies produce the kind of resin quality demanded by serious solventless extractors?

Unlike many pre-release testers, Dab wasn’t simply evaluating flower quality. His goal was to discover how Slurricane Cookies would perform as a modern hash and rosin variety.

This grow also marked his first experience using EarthBoxes. Combined with living soil, LED lighting and an intensive training programme, the system was designed to produce a broad, even canopy capable of supporting heavy resin production.

One Slurricane Cookies plant was grown alongside two additional test varieties, including Antonio’s unreleased PMK line, giving Dab an excellent opportunity to compare growth characteristics within the same environment.

Building the canopy

Dab’s first weeks with Slurricane Cookies were all about creating the ideal plant structure before flowering. Rather than allowing the plant to grow naturally, he focused on building a broad, even canopy through a combination of low stress training (LST), selective defoliation and careful nutrient management.

The grow was also his first experience with EarthBoxes, a sub-irrigated growing system that quickly proved capable of supporting vigorous growth.

Around day 30, Dab moved Slurricane Cookies and Antonio’s unreleased PMK test plant into a larger 4 × 4 ft tent while leaving the lighting schedule at 18/6 to allow the autoflowers sharing the space to finish their cycle.

At the same time, the plants received their first top dressing with Craft Blend nutrients and continued drawing water steadily from the EarthBoxes.

Day 30… I moved PMK and Slurricane Cookies into the 4 × 4 tent. Gonna do a little training and defoliation this week.

One detail that caught Antonio’s attention was the heat mat beneath the EarthBoxes.

Antonio:

Looking good brother! You are having a bit of cold in the room or why are you using the heat mat?

Dab:

Yeah, just to help keep lights-off temperatures a little better.

Following defoliation and the first round of LST, the plant quickly recovered. The thick canopy opened up nicely, creating a much more even structure ahead of flowering. Water consumption also increased rapidly as the root system expanded.

She almost drinks a full reservoir a day… gonna give her a few more days in veg then I flip her to flower.

The EarthBox system also sparked discussion among other AFN members, who wondered whether the plants would eventually outgrow the containers.

Dab explained that although the roots became extensive by the end of the grow, the larger EarthBoxes provided enough space for both the root system and the heavy organic feeding programme.

By day 35, the canopy was exactly where Dab wanted it. The first flowering feed was applied, and the plant was moved into the flowering tent to begin the next stage of the grow.

Flower development

The first two weeks of flowering were characterised by healthy vertical growth without excessive stretch. Thanks to the training carried out during vegetative growth, the canopy remained remarkably even while new flowering sites developed across the entire plant. Nutrient demand also increased noticeably.

Might have got a little behind on feeding… hopefully have room for another feed.

By the third week of flowering, the benefits of Dab’s training programme became increasingly obvious. Rather than producing only a handful of dominant tops, the plant developed numerous evenly sized flowering sites, each receiving excellent light penetration. As the stretch slowed, resin production accelerated.

The final weeks of flowering transformed the plant completely. Buds continued swelling while the sweet aroma intensified, signalling that harvest was approaching.

At this stage, it was already clear that Slurricane Cookies possessed exceptional resin production. Dense flowers, swollen calyxes and thick trichome coverage hinted at the impressive rosin return that would later confirm Dab’s original objective.

Harvest and rosin performance

After 35 days of vegetative growth and 53 days of flowering, Dab decided the plants had reached peak maturity. The final result reflected everything he had been working towards throughout the grow: dense flowers, excellent structure and exceptional resin production.

His first impression after harvest summed it up perfectly.

Fat buds that smell super fruity like Skittles.

The combination of swollen calyxes, thick trichome coverage and vibrant bag appeal confirmed that Slurricane Cookies had lived up to expectations well before the flowers were dried.

From flowers to rosin

Dab rarely judges a harvest solely by the quality of the dried flowers. His real interest lies in solventless extraction, making the rosin press the ultimate test of a cultivar’s resin potential.

The dried harvest yielded 164 grams of flower before pressing.

The results were impressive. Slurricane Cookies delivered an outstanding 18% rosin return, immediately confirming its potential as a premium solventless variety. Just as interesting was the way the terpene profile evolved after pressing.

Some of the fruity smell has disappeared. It’s still there, but now smells like funky Fruity Pebles.

Rather than simply preserving the aroma of the dried flowers, the extraction revealed a deeper, funkier layer of the terpene profile that Dab particularly enjoyed.

Looking back over the entire grow, Dab achieved exactly what he had set out to do. His first EarthBox cultivation produced healthy, vigorous plants, dense flowers and an extraction return that would satisfy even experienced hash makers. For growers interested in resin production, Slurricane Cookies proved itself to be an exceptional performer from start to finish.

Grow #2 by St. Tom: Growing organically for exceptional flower quality

For his pre-release test, Dab set out to answer one question: could Slurricane Cookies produce the kind of resin quality demanded by serious solventless extractors?

Where Dab pushed Slurricane Cookies towards solventless extraction, St. Tom took a different route. His aim was simple: grow exceptional flowers using an organic, low-maintenance system that allowed the genetics to perform naturally.

Four Slurricane Cookies plants—still labelled A-2 Tester during the pre-release phase—were grown indoors under Sanlight EVO LEDs using AutoPots and the Biotabs organic feeding programme.

Rather than relying on intensive plant manipulation, St. Tom focused on building a healthy canopy before letting the plants express themselves through flowering.

Building the foundation

Unlike Dab, St. Tom extended the vegetative period to around 42–45 days, allowing each plant to develop multiple main branches before flowering. By day 40, the structure already looked extremely promising.

Here are my four Slurricane Cookies from Antonio. At day 40 of veg, these girls have all been multi topped and I’m hoping they will be really special and will be flipped in a week max.

The longer vegetative period created an even canopy packed with flowering sites, providing the perfect foundation for the weeks ahead.

Flower development

Once flowering began, Slurricane Cookies transitioned smoothly into bloom with vigorous yet controlled growth. The canopy remained remarkably even, while flower sites developed consistently across all four plants. St. Tom’s first flowering update reflected his confidence in the crop.

Only a few days later, the progress was obvious.

This set of the 4×4 Antonio/Dutch Passion’s Slurricane Cookies are looking stunning at day 23 of flower. This week I may give them a compost tea too.

Rather than making frequent adjustments, St. Tom largely let the plants develop naturally, intervening only when necessary.

Canopy management

Around day 28 of flowering, he carried out a careful lollipopping session to improve airflow beneath the canopy and direct more energy towards the upper flowers.

Lollypopped my girls… I was wondering if I went a bit overboard.

A compost tea was applied shortly afterwards to support the living soil ecosystem. The response was immediate, with the plants maintaining excellent vigour throughout mid-flowering.

These girls got a dose of compost tea today, day 36 of flower.

As flowering progressed, only minimal intervention remained necessary. A few tops were gently tied down after approaching the LED fixtures, while the rest of the canopy continued maturing naturally.

I had to bend and tie down two or three of the tops… they were too close to the light.

Colour, resin and phenotype expression

As the weeks progressed, one characteristic became impossible to ignore: the remarkable colour expression. Several phenotypes developed deep purple and pink hues while maintaining dense flower formation and exceptional resin production.

The diversity between plants added another layer of visual appeal without compromising consistency, something particularly valuable in a limited-edition release.

Ripening

Approaching harvest, St. Tom once again demonstrated his patient growing style. Rather than harvesting everything at once, he planned to remove the main tops first before allowing the lower flowers a few extra days to mature.

I’m thinking it will be a multichop job. I never harvest all the plants at once…

Harvest

Approaching the end of flowering, St. Tom chose to harvest the plants in stages rather than cutting everything at once. By removing the most mature tops first and allowing the lower flowers a few extra days to ripen, he aimed to maximise both quality and uniformity. His enthusiasm was obvious when the harvest began.

Started chopping… this will be one hell of a haul!

Yield and finished flowers

The transition to organic living soil and the Biotabs programme had initially been something of a leap of faith. Looking back after harvest, St. Tom couldn’t have been happier with the decision.

I was so worried when I transitioned to soil and Biotabs. But Antonio really helped me here. There is no pH or EC and just good old tap water. It makes for a lot less work…

The four Slurricane Cookies plants produced an estimated 20 ounces (approximately 560 g) of dried flowers while delivering exactly what St. Tom had hoped for: colourful, resin-rich buds with excellent aroma, flavour and bag appeal.
