Ice Cream Haze 200g dry yield from 2 plants by St Tom (Autoflower Network)

Ice Cream Haze (Crockett’s Haze x Ice Cream Cake) is a collaboration between Dutch Passion and Antonio (40 cannabis cups & one of Europe’s best independent mother collections).

Such was the confidence in these banging elite USA genetics that this grow review, from Autoflower Network moderator ‘St Tom’ was a pre-release grow (before Ice Cream Haze feminised seeds were commercially available). Check out the heavy 2-plant 200g/7oz harvest of beautifully frosty grade-A buds in the pictures and video below.

Ice Cream Haze pre-release test grow by St Tom

In this blog, we follow St. Tom from the Autoflower Network (AFN) again. St Tom is a highly experienced grower used to producing top-shelf nugs.

Check out his previous impressive grow review with Kerosene Krash feminised seeds. This time, St Tom’s indoor Ice Cream Haze grow was the first ever Ice Cream Haze grow on any forum worldwide.

Ice Cream Haze is a new Dutch Passion cultivar which had been shared with St. Tom by Antonio for a pre-launch grow in order to get unbiased feedback.

Follow him on his journey from feminised seed to harvest in about 4 months. The original grow diary on the Autoflower Network is here.

Average temperature: Mid-twenties Celsius (around 75F).

Average humidity: Around 55-60% during most of the run.

Grow lights: SANlight LED Evo 4-80 series grow light. Mostly used only on 60% of maximum power.

Light distance from canopy: Around 30 to 40cm / 12-16 inches.

Ice Cream Haze feminised seed germination

St Tom germinated 4 Ice Cream Haze seeds. One didn’t germinate. From the remaining 3 seedlings, 2 were chosen for onward growing. Some comments from St Tom:

I feel blessed to even be asked again and I did germinate 4 cannabis seeds, so I will pick the best 2 – Antonio knows what will work in my smaller tent.

And the new tiny ones who have just popped are from a new batch called Ice Cream Haze,  so out of these, the best 2 will be grown in the 76x76x180cm tent (2.5 x 2.5 x 6ft).

The 3 corner girls – I will get better pics later when I move but they’re getting potted up in a day or so.

Vegetative stage

The Ice Cream Haze seedlings grew steadily. The vegetative growth phase was straightforward. The use of BioTabs slow-release organic nutrients meant the ‘water-only’ grow method could be used for much of the grow.

St Tom was advised by Antonio to use cannabis supercropping (crushing/bending of the main stem) to create a more even canopy of buds.

Some comments from St Tom:

Anyhow Ice Cream Haze plants were placed on the front left of the tent until they fill out. So, 1 plant is in a plastic pot and 1 is in a fabric container, but I’m pretty sure things will work out fine. They’re in their final grow containers.

Looking great also I’m unsure when to top. I normally do this slightly early but these plants are getting vegged more this time anyhow.

And now regarding the Ice Cream Haze plants on the left – they will be going into their own tent the 180x76x76cm (2.5 x2.5 x 6ft).

At this stage, Antonio gave the following advice to help St. Tom during the vegetative growth period:

Easy mate, first supercrop the back Ice Cream Haze right now, feel for a sturdy/strong spot in the stem, rub first and supercrop it.

Probably below the top 10-15cm, just above the node where the second set of big fan leaves are hanging.

This will help slow it down, so the rest of the shoots can catch up, and you’ll have a more even canopy compared to the other lady in that tent.

Although cannabis high stress training (HST) can seem risky/stressful to some growers, the best cannabis seed varieties benefit from professional selective breeding which can allow them to cope well with it.

St Tom made a few comments:

She was getting tough to bend. I know I’ve done loads but on my last grow i split the stem and had to use electrical tape (to repair the snap)- but I never want to hear that crack again!

Anyhow, I got you a few angles and twirled her. Some more work may be required so let me know your points as I want to flip them (into bloom) quite soon.

They’re doing great. But where I supercropped the girl on the right I ended up snapping her, but some of the others then made it to the top.

It was just a mistake that I was devastated by, but that was about 10 days ago, and I defoliated a load more since – as you will see on the floor from last night.

Yes bro I’d say I use around half of the old soil as its still full of good stuff and I’d never in a million years reused it.

But Antonio said you can use old soil 3 times I’ve also got a document or pdf showing the process so I will find it and post it soon.

Flowering stage

With some supercropping and defoliation, the Ice Cream Haze plants were set for the cannabis bloom phase after a 6-week veg. The Ice Cream Haze are bred from stable, acclaimed parent genetics and are tough enough to cope with both low stress training (LST) as well as high stress training (HST). BioTabs did their usual great job of slow-release organic feeding making for a simple grow, mostly with a water-only feeding regime.

Note how St Tom’s hard work preparing his plants in veg rewarded him with an impressive harvest. Both quality and quantity were delivered in abundance. As always, the SANlight LED’s did a great job.

A few comments from St Tom:

These Ice Cream Haze girls were flipped to 12-12 today (after 6 weeks of VEG). Here’s the small tent for these two.

The canopy is staying quite level but all the plants in both tents have a lot of stretching to go (2 weeks into flowering).

The 2 Ice Cream Haze sisters are looking great. I think and they will be started on the PK boost at the weekend now they are at day 13 of flower.

All my plants this time around are Antonio’s crosses and I feel honoured to grow them as he doesn’t let just anyone grow them. But he’s worked with me for ages with tips and switching to organic growing.

Not much to report I put the shorter Ice Cream Haze on top of a stand and I’ve now got the canopy a lot more level. I’m thinking of popping another BioTab in each pot, or at least half a BioTab, just to keep them fed & happy until the end.

Day 28 of bloom for the Ice Cream Haze. Everything is looking super. The right-hand girl is the hungrier and has been given an extra BioTab.

So, it’s just a case of PK 5.8 once a week now. But until the BioTab took effect I used BAC bloom.

Day 29 of flower with my Ice Cream Haze. I’m starting to see some issues the right-hand girl I’m not sure if the light is slightly too strong. She’s 30-40cm/12-16 inches from the SANlight and I’ve dimmed her down to 60%, also I’m sparsely watering but I will check the weight in the morning.

Well here we go folks all lights off and I will try get more steady vids too. We’re now at day 36.

Little video and pics of the Ice Cream Haze at Day 44 of flower. They all get PK 5.8 tonight,10ml once weekly.

Some nice Ice Cream Haze at Day 49. I’m so impressed the way I grew 2 different shaped girls. The tops are classic sativa and her sister is more of a hybrid cross.

And next pics are Ice Cream Haze looking awesome.

And now for the small tent with the 2 Ice Cream Haze, the Dutch Passion website says 8-10 weeks of flowering.

A nice lights-out picture of the two Ice Cream Haze from Dutch Passion. These are at 9 weeks of flower, so I’m thinking of harvesting maybe within a week or so. Also remember the Biotabs nutrients. Simple feeding using no-frills tap water. It’s the easiest way to grow bud by far!

Well folks I’m considering harvesting either one of the haze girls… or both.

Harvest report

These great pictures show the numerous well-proportioned blooms and the richly-frosted connoisseur buds that you can expect from Ice Cream Haze. What makes this grow even more interesting was the use of BioTabs slow-release organic nutrients system.

Apart from some PK boost and use of BAC bloom (when the plants were hungry,) only water was required. One important consideration is that, with BioTabs, the soil can be re-used 3 times. Soil quality actually improves through re-use thanks to the culture of beneficial bacteria & fungi that continuously populate the soil.

Some comments from St Tom:

Now for some banging results from my small tent, Ice Cream Haze just shy of 200g/7oz. Antonio huge thanks to you bro. I can’t believe these results for an organic BioTabs grow.

Final Height:
Below 1m/3 ft, due to the use of super-cropping.

Calyx-leaf ratio (Easy trim/yes or no):
Yes. Really quick & easy to trim with a very favourable calyx-to-leaf ratio.

Quality (Resin/Smell/Compactness):
Superb quality. Very frosty and sticky, strong aroma during flowering.

Yield:
200g/7oz dry from just 2 plants.

Remarks after curing:
Incredibly pungent and potent organic buds! Great bag appeal, especially the hybrid phenotype, but the Sativa/haze pheno is also very nice.

Observations and expert growing tips

St. Tom grew and flowered two Ice Cream Haze plants for about 9.5 weeks during this grow. Both showed slightly different phenotype expression of the genetics.

One was more Sativa and Haze dominant (the bigger one on the right in the pictures). The other phenotype was more Ice Cream Cake dominant – making her more compact and frostier with possible purple colourations.

Both phenotypes are very terpy & sticky with impressive potency, around 25% THC has been independently measured. The Haze-dominant lady can be a little hungrier and fussier, while the more hybrid-style plant is very easy to grow and just a little quicker in flowering. St Tom loved the way his organic grow turned out. The highest quality buds, in generous amounts, with a rich smooth taste & superb high. An easy grow too. A grower’s delight!

Impressive preparation and planning brought St Tom a heavy harvest that received a top rating from him. Quality LED lighting from SANlight, large containers and some super-cropping allowed the Ice Cream Haze genetics to produce a top-quality harvest. BioTabs meant it was a relatively easy & straight-forward, low maintenance grow too.

Congrats to St Tom on an impressive grow display, yet again!

Special comment on Ice Cream Haze & how she was developed using BioTabs

Antonio (check out one of his previous breeding case studies here) bred Ice Cream Haze from the parent genetics using organic BioTabs throughout the breeding process. So, although all Dutch Passion cannabis seed varieties are well suited to organic growing with BioTabs, Ice Cream Haze really seems to synchronise well with them.

For that reason, and several others, BioTabs are recommended to any prospective Ice Cream Haze grower. BioTabs made for a considerably easier grow. Only water was required for much of it, apart from some PK additions and supplemental bloom feed near the end.

Simplification isn’t the only benefit. The slow & steady release of nutrition (& beneficial fungi) keeps your plants in the nutrient sweet spot, free from the perils & hassle of over/under feeding.

Over/under feeding is one of the most common mistakes made during cannabis cultivation. BioTabs makes it so simple to keep your plants in the nutrient sweet spot from cannabis seed to harvest.

As well as slow-release nutrition, BioTabs also include beneficial bacteria & fungi which gradually improves soil health. That means your soil can be reused up to 3 times with no loss in nutritional quality.

In fact, soil quality actually improves. Being able to reuse your soil up to 3 times is also a major cost saving, especially for growers that use large containers of 30-50 litres+ (6-12 gal+).

You can buy a BioTabs starter kit from Dutch Passion here, with everything you need for a 5-10 plant grow
