Pink Banana Runtz expertly grown in soil/coco under LED by St Tom

Pink Banana Runtz (Banana Z x Gelato #33) is Dutch Passion’s latest 27% THC heavyweight limited edition feminised seed variety made in partnership with Antonio who has 40+ cannabis cups and one of Europe’s best independent mother collections.

Pink BananaRuntz was grown by St. Tom, a quality-focussed expert UK grower and moderator on AFN (Autoflower Network grow forum). The original grow diary is here, note that this was a pre-release grow of Pink Banana Runtz. St Tom also grew some Dutch Passion Kerosene Krash and Slush Mint Cake feminised seeds alongside which also feature in his diary.

Pre-release grow review of Pink Banana Runtz

One of the distinctive features of this grow are the trademark chunky, frosty pink blooms. St Tom also made a powerful tincture (extract) from the potent buds. Enjoy the pictures! The words in the review below come from St Tom himself with a few remarks from breeder Antonio.

Germination phase, in St Tom’s own words

Happy 420 folks anyhow my 2 Kerosene Krash girls are potted up. Both tents from now on will be using AutoPots. I’m just making life as easy as possible. Also big thanks to Antonio from Dutch Passion. I also had 2 of the new Pink Banana Runtz pop up out of the Root Riot (germination cubes). They are in solo cups too.

  • Indoor grow, AutoPots.
  • Soil/Coco blend.
  • LED lights – Sanlight Evo series.
  • Organic nutrients – Biotabs full line.
  • Around 5 to 6 weeks in VEG, 9-10 weeks of flowering.

I started 2 more seeds of each in a different place from all the others so I’m going to get 4 good plants one way or another.

I’ve been quite busy but her are my new girls 2 Kerosene Krash (day 24) and some of Antonio’s strains. I will give them some names with initials when I re-pot them on Wednesday.

The 2 red solo cups are Slush Mint Cake.  I’m going to be potting up the best ones on Saturday. My Kerosene Krash are doing great too and these both will be going in the smaller tent. Both tents will be on AutoPots eventually.

Pink Banana Runtz VEG phase assessment by St Tom

Done some potting up today. I labelled them in the pics but these are some of Antonio’s strains and the Pink Banana Runtz. I believe I’m the first person to be growing these and I hope to put a great show on.

Anyhow some have fared better than others. So just as a guarantee of getting 4 good plants I potted my solo cups in brand new soil today. So I have 5 Pink Banana Runtz and 2 Slush Mint Cake. I was even considering starting the whole lot fresh but maybe after a few weeks veg and slow watering things may turn out well.  Antonio, let me know your thoughts please

And here we have tent 2. These are from Antonio, Dutch Passion – so 2x Slush Mint Cake and the rest are Pink Banana Runtz. I fucked up a little here by repotting some of them in heavy wet pots. So a big error on my account but live and learn. I’m going to be topping these but they need a lot of veg time.

I’m looking at picking the best 5. So 4 to go in AutoPots and 1 in the middle, maybe. These girls are about 30 days old and are Slush Mint Cakes and the rest are Pink Banana Runtz. Anyhow let me know your thoughts plus a huge thanks to Antonio once again for letting me show and grow these.

And now to the big tent. I have 7 plants, so 2 need to go as 4 will be going on AutoPots and I may keep one in the middle. So either 1 or 2 Slush Mint Cake and the rest are Pink Banana Runtz – so I have some decisions to make.

Tent 2. As I said, 2 plants need to be culled in my 4×4. I’m going to keep 5 all in AutoPots. In fact, all my plants going forwards (from both tents) will be grown organically as usual since BioTabs have loaded me up with a frigging load. But I have worked hard for this on instagram, so I post there too. Anyhow the 2 on the left are different from the other 5.

Antonio said: Nice ladies mate, looking good! I would definitely top that biggest Pink Banana Runtz and strip her a bit (take away all the biggest leaves) to slow her growth down a bit. She looks like she is going to take over.

OK folks down to the final 5 in the big tent. So on the left we have 2 Slush Mint Cake and on the right-side Pink Banana Runtz and I will flip these (into bloom) very soon.

St. Tom shared a video of stripping (defoliating) the plants.

Antonio replied: Beauties mate! Perfectly stripped in my opinion! Don’t switch too early because these won’t stretch a great deal in flowering. The Pink Banana Runtz is generally a compact bushy lady.

The Slush Mint Cake is a bit more stretchy/leggy and can definitely use some sticks/ropes to support the branches/tops. Healthy looking green leaves too, especially for the Pink Banana Runtz.

With the Slush Mint Cake the leaves are drooping a bit (claw-like), which could indicate they received a bit too much water. By the way, is there any reason you have one of the lights hanging at that angle?

St Tom: Regarding the light angle, it’s so I don’t hit my head, and i adjust them straight before i zip it up. Also these girls will all be on the auto reservoir on Saturday. I will lift the pots on the Slush Mint Cake. Antonio, when do you reckon I can flip the big room? With 5 plants it will get cramped in there

Antonio replied: Regarding the 5 in the big tent, I would FIM the biggest Slush Mint Cake. All 3 main tops can best be fimmed to slow down her vertical growth a bit. This will also make her a bit more bushy.

I think looking at their growth, they will need another week. Maximum 1.5 weeks before putting them on 12/12 mate. Depending on how fast they will be growing as soon as you put them on the reservoir.

St Tom: So both tent pics now. As with the 4×4 tent, I totally stripped mostly all the bottom and loads of side leaves. After that I hit the girls in both tents with some Boom Boom Spray – as the product says I can use in week 1 and 2 of flower and every 5 days in veg if required for stressed plants.

As my light hangs from front left to right, that’s why I kept both the Slush Mint Cake on the left. So if they get really tall I’ve got no carbon filter that side so the height difference shouldn’t be an issue.

And the ‘5 point dice’ arrangement is how they will be left to flower as the right side has slightly lower headroom so I can manage both sides.

So I’m going to flip in a few days give them a couple of days to recover as I went real heavy on that defoliation. Anyhow let me know your thoughts.

Flowering phase

4×4 tent today. So on the left we have 2 Slush Mint Cake and the other 3 Pink Banana Runtz. This tent has just been flipped to flower.

It’s been a little while since I posted but now both tents are fully in flower now. The 4×4 big tent has the 2 Slush Mint Cake sisters on the left-hand side of the tent. I think those and the 3 Pink Banana Runtz in the middle/right are at day 12 of flower.

Photo drop today of the 4×4 at day 17 of flower. I gave them there first PK 5.8 this week so on the left the Slush Mint Cake and the other 3 are Pink Banana Runtz – a new strain from Antonio & Dutch Passion. I think another round of defoliation is coming up.

Today I have made compost tea. This was a couple of hours on the first video and the other is 18 hrs later. They will be given at least 24 hours and the plants absolutely love this as I used it on my last harvest. BioTabs suggest using PK 5.8 of this weekly or on alternate weeks.

Day 39 of flower in the 4×4 tent. This video is from a side view so I will get some front shots later. I know they need a bit of a defoliation for sure, but I’ve suffered with a bad chest infection so I’m just doing the best I can. QBgrower – here are my weather stations. They are a life saver for me.

4×4 tent, 1st video of the 2 Slush Mint Cake, and the other video is the Pink Banana Runtz girls. These are all at week 7 of flower, so day 49. I’m also looking to chop the girls in the smaller tent maybe this evening.

Here we go folks today I cut some buds off at certain places and no seeds in the 4×4. But we’re at week 8 of flower now and a few of the back Pink Banana Runtz will definitely go longer than the others.

So the 2 left-hand sisters are Slush Mint Cake. And I put 5 plants in this time but never again and Antonio/Dutch Passion have got me so big surprises incoming. It will be 4 of the same strain next round under a net maybe.

Harvest time

Couple of videos I took, checked some of the main tops and luckily found no more mould. But these buds are like hand grenades and are chunky as hell for organic grown buds. And a huge thanks to Antonio & Dutch Passion.

There are some of the most beautiful buds I’ve ever grown, and they will have unbelievable bag appeal, too.

So happy to be able to name the Pink Banana Runtz from Antonio/Dutch Passion and now I’m happy to show some of these girls anyhow a load of pics soon. The last 2 are of dry bud.

I harvested loads off the 4x4s girl last night mainly the Pink Banana Runtz. Anyhow, some new pics from there & a small video of some dry Slush Mint Cake buds. And they look epic.

Pink Banana Runtz pre-chop. Look at those colours. Anyhow only the very lower bits to finish now and I’m sorry posting the pics late. Big thanks too Antonio/Dutch Passion.

Yield/dry result & glycerine tincture info

I got about 14oz/400g from 3 plants. But mistakenly I added 3 of these into my 4×4, next to another strain of 2 on the left and with one being in the middle. And that (5 plants in the tent) was a mistake, as at the back, the canopy has a lot of lower stuff that never got as much of the light. And I’m always honest about these things whether it is good or bad.

Here we go I’ve made some lovely vegetable glycerine extract made from the Pink Banana Runtz. I used about 100g of mixed small bits. I also decarboxylate the buds in the cook bag to stop the smell.

Rating overall : 4.5 out of 5

Aroma (4/5): Aroma is very fruity and not overpowering.

Taste (5/5): My friend who smokes joints, said this was like a scoop of ice cream and fruity. They absolutely loved it as I make tinctures to consume myself.

Effect (4.5/5): Shit hits quite hard and as you know, Antonio, I’ve tried many strains. But this lady is very long-lasting, even a teaspoon of glycerine extract lasts me for ages.

Bag appeal (4.5/5): I took some videos and pics of her buds. And yes, she looked like a bud that anyone has seen her structure/her smell would be blown away by.

I ended up with 3 very different-looking girls and i was very surprised at the lovely purple and pink flowers.

Would I grow Pink Banana Runtz again? Yes, in a heartbeat, but I’d use a net and never put that extra plant in the middle again as she made everything a bit tight in there.
