Ice Cream Haze 300g dry harvest by Johnny Green

Ice Cream Haze cannabis seed to harvest grow report by Johnny Green (19-2)

Ice Cream Haze is a feminised seed variety.  She is a new-school USA inspired Haze hybrid, made by crossing an old-school premium Crockett’s Haze cultivar with the acclaimed & sought-after American Ice Cream Cake genetics.

This F1 hybrid cross was developed several years ago by breeder Antonio, (35 cannabis cups in the last 7 years!) initially only available in regular cannabis seeds. But due to excellent feedback, Ice Cream Haze is now available in feminised seeds.

Most phenotypes are around 20% THC, with some phenotypes offering up to 25%, with a bloom time of 8-10 weeks. Expect a penetrating and powerful aroma with mainly spicy, hazy notes combined with the delicious sweet, fruity and creamy Gelato x Wedding Cake terpene profile & a euphoric, anti-anxiety high.

The indoor grow review comes from Johnny Green, pictures by Antonio.

Solid and fast cannabis seed germination with a 100% germination rate. It took only a few days for them to pop up and show their heads. Strong genetics!

Vegetative stage

These were impressively fast-growing plants with real hybrid vigour – strong stems and big leaves. Overall, they developed with a nice dark green colour. The first few weeks went smoothly, the plants grew without any hassle.

My plants tend had strong stems and solid growth once the roots were established in the soil.

Ice Cream Haze looks like a relatively fast-growing hybrid cultivar during the vegetative phase. Leaves have a hybrid appearance where both the Indica and Sativa genes are visible.

Flowering stage

During flowering the 9 plants really took off. Once the clock has been switched to 12/12 they start stretching. For about the first two weeks of bloom they grow really fast. All in all, it is a very solid stretch during flowering. Most of the plants keep on growing well into the third week of 12/12.

One or two even stretched into their fourth week but that was rather an exception than the rule. Most plants really build massive, long spear-like blooms during flowering. They stack very well, impressive for those that appreciate the finer details.

The Sativa influence is definitely noticeable. The ladies were grown the natural way – without any training, bending, cropping etc. Just some bamboo canes were used to keep the plants upright and supported during flowering when the branches were sagging.

There are some very interesting, fruity Haze phenotypes to be found. The Haze part is dominant and that is shown in about 50% of the plants. The other half is a mix of Haze with the uniquely delicious doughy, creamy & pungent Ice Cream Cake taste. You also see that mix of genetics in the buds.

The most intensely ice-cream tasting buds are slightly more compact with a completely different terpene profile, which clearly show the influence of both genetic lines.

These plants truly get massive blooms! Some reach 30-40cm in length and look really amazing! All of them were very sticky and terpy. A sweet haze is the best way I can describe it.

I had a few favourites but if I had to pick one, #8 won on sheer potency, super frosty looks and that very fruity, haze terpene profile. Besides being quite strong to smoke, she is super tasty too.

There were a few others that nicely combined the Ice Cream Cake terps with Haze, the best ones probably were #2 & #3 which had rounder buds with a superb pungency as well. #5 was also nice, but more on the traditional haze side, very herbal, incense style.

In conclusion, Ice Cream Haze is a top-class feminised cannabis seed variety. She was easy and vigorous to grow and delivered top quality buds.

This is a very nice strain where you can find quite some variation in terpenes and aroma profile. The bud structure, yield and flower time weren’t too far from each other, with only minor differences.

Final Height:

Most of them were in total around 1m-1,20m (3-4ft) or so. Quite a decent size considering the somewhat-cramped conditions with 9 plants in a 1m x 1m tent. The two largest plants were placed at the sides of the grow area in order to ensure that the top blooms would not touch the LED.

Calyx-leaf ratio (Easy trim/yes or no):

Not bad to trim, but also not great. The buds swelled to quite a size, some of them still had quite some leaves in them. A few phenotypes were really quick to trim, while others took longer to fully manicure. However, on reflection I wonder if the high-ish temperatures had influenced the structure & the bud/leaf ratio adversely?

Quality (Resin/Smell/Compactness):

Really top-notch! The flowers are loaded with trichomes, very sticky and smell fantastic with a connoisseur dankness. The compactness is more of a hybrid style flower, not super compact, nor fluffy. A little bit sativa dominant in general, but that depends on the phenotype as well.

Yield:

Final yield was around 300g from the 9 Ice Cream Haze plants. Around 0,7g/w which isn’t bad in these conditions I think (high temperatures etc.) and with an older 2018 LED growlight. It was actually the best result during a run of several grows made with various strains from different suppliers. Ice Cream Haze is the heaviest yielding hybrid to go underneath that aging LED for the last couple of years.

Remarks after curing:

The buds smell great, sweet fruity Haze! The Haze is definitely dominant, but it has the added complexity of Ice Cream Cake. The taste is also loud, though for me the best aspect is the intense, uplifting and euphoric high. What a great smoke! The #8 hits strongly and makes you happy!

Observations and expert growing tips

Ice Cream Haze cannabis seed to harvest grow report by Johnny Green (25)

Overall, these Ice Cream Haze ladies showed they are pretty strong, vigorous and stable plants. Also, their capability of producing top quality weed in far less than optimal conditions is something which is worth mentioning.

During this run there was even a thrips infestation. The higher temperatures meant they multiplied fast, making it hard to get rid of them.

But even despite this, and the fact that some leaves were definitely attacked/damaged, the plants still grew like strongly and produced well.

One thing I noticed was that this strain likes to grow with vigour! The plants drink well and can handle quite some nutrients, she is not a fussy feeder.

When grown in a large container these genetics have the potential to become absolute monsters! Outdoors I can imagine they can become insanely big, and high yielding too, for those lucky enough to enjoy warmish Octobers.

I really enjoyed growing these Ice Cream Haze plants. The grow was actually part of a test grow to compare these genetics to some other interesting seed varieties.

And the Ice Cream Haze really didn’t fail me! On the contrary, of around 8-9 different seed varieties grown in similar tents/conditions the Ice Cream Haze were the best yielders and were also the most stable and amongst the best smelling/looking cultivars.

I’m quite a fan of strong Sativa’s dominant hybrids and some of these plants really ticked all of my boxes!

I liked them so much, such as phenotype #8, as mentioned before, that I kept a clone which I will be running again. I absolutely loved the vigour these plants showed, these are very strong genetics, that’s for sure!

The yield is a big plus, but for me especially the high itself is mighty impressive. The effect is strong, uplifting, energetic, a real Sativa/Haze high, but with a better taste because of the Ice Cream Cake genetics, making her a bit sweeter.

The extremely nice high combined with that terpene profile is the reason I will be growing her again and again. Fruity, sweet Haze, what’s not to love?
